ContiTech Inaugurates Plant in Serbia

After a construction time span of just nine months, Hanover-based ContiTech AG has inaugurated a production plant for hose lines in northern Serbia. Since October 2012, the plant has already been supplying customers in the auto industry. In the meantime, the site employs around 150. The head count is expected to climb to 250 by year's end.

ContiTech invested more than ten million euros in the new facility. Certified to all required quality standards, the plant expands the production capacity of hose line specialist ContiTech Fluid Technology, a ContiTech business group.  Subotica assembles hose lines for the powertrain and supplies these to European automakers. Each year, the plant produces a grand total of 1.8 million units, broken down into around eighty different parts.

Citing one of the location's major advantages, Matthias Schönberg, head of the ContiTech Fluid Technology business group notes: "Subotica offers an excellent logistical hookup to our customers. Further advantages are a local labor market that offers just what we need and close proximity to sister plants in Szeged, Hungary, and Timișoara, Romania."

There is enough room to eventually expand further on the plot in the bonded zone in the Mali Bajmok industrial park. The production hall originally erected there measures 7,200 square meters (77,500 sq. feet).

Subotica plant

ContiTech Fluid Technology produces hose line systems for the auto industry as well as for the plant and machine engineering, oil production and numerous other industries. In 2012, its over 14,000 employees realized €1,360 million in sales.

In 2009, ContiTech previously purchases the Serbian conveyor belt company Kolubara Univerzal and has since produced conveyor belts in Veliki Crljeni, south of Belgrade, for the Central and Eastern European market.

Powertransmissions - Kaman Announces Plan to Acquire Parker Distributor Northwest Hose & FittingsKaman Corporation (NYSE:KAMN) Thursday announced that its Distribution Segment (Kaman) has signed a definitive agreement to acquire substantially all the assets of Northwest Hose & Fittings, Inc. based in Spokane, Washington. The transaction is expected to close in the next few weeks. Terms were not disclosed.

Northwest Hose & Fittings, founded in 2000, is an authorized Parker distributor of hydraulic hose, fittings, adapters as well as couplers and industrial hose to a diverse group of industries such as the metals, agricultural, industrial machinery and equipment industries. Parker Hannifin Corporation is the global leader in motion and control technologies. The company also has locations in Yakima and Moses Lake, Washington and Coeur d’Alene, Idaho and operates Parker Stores at all of its locations. Annual sales for 2013 are expected to be approximately $8 million.

Forestry machines: up to 10 percent faster control behavior of implement hydraulics

Forestry machines place extremely high demands on the dynamics and stability of the implement hydraulics in order to achieve maximum productivity. In the first heavy-duty series applications, the new A11VO axial piston variable pump of series 40 from Rexroth demonstrates an up to ten percent faster control behavior with an efficiency increased to up to 93 percent.

The fast control behavior of the A11VO series 40 increases the dynamics of the implement hydraulics and simultaneously stabilizes load-sensing systems. As a result, forestry machines spontaneously respond to operating commands even under high loads or with fast load changes, including cases where multiple consumers need to be supplied at once. This increases the working speed and efficiency, e.g., for harvester heads.

Within the scope of the fundamental redesign of the pump, the Rexroth developers have increased the efficiency to up to 93 percent and thereby achieve a value greater than other comparable pumps. Through the compact dimensions, manufacturers of forestry machines can integrate more power in tight installation spaces. A likewise newly developed sealing system reliably prevents leakage through a significant reduction in the high-pressure sealing points. Rexroth achieves the higher control dynamics through an optimized adjustment system based on the proven plain bearing support of the swashplate. Numerous hydraulic and electric controllers, some of which can be controlled remotely, facilitate highly efficient power and pressure controls as well as stroke limiting and load-sensing functions.

An optimized housing structure of the high-pressure pump also reduces noise emissions considerably: in pressuring-holding operation, the operating noise is up to 3 dB(A) lower than is typical for other comparable pumps. This reduces the work associated with reducing noise to the legal emission limits for the manufacturers of forestry machinery.

The A11VO series 40 supplies the open circuits typical for forestry machines as needed at a nominal pressure of up to 350 bar and a maximum pressure of up to 420 bar. The universal through drive simplifies custom combinations with axial piston pumps, gear pumps and other hydraulic pumps. The A11VO is available in sizes 110, 145, 175, 210 and 280; for sizes 145 and larger, optionally with integrated charge pump (impeller) as A11VLO.

Powertransmissions - Ferrules simplify hydraulic hose coupling connectionsGates Corp. has launched a new line of six ferrules to complement its GlobalSpiral couplings for use on its wire-braid hydraulic hoses. Using these new components can simplify machine design, replacing up to 143 wire-braid couplings, for reduced inventory, weight, and costs.

The GlobalSpiral couplings were originally designed for use with just spiral-wire hydraulic hose. With the new ferrules, GlobalSpiral stem inventory is now compatible with both spiral-wire and wire-braid hose. This “one stem solution” offers simple, no-skive installation for fast, secure assemblies, with job done with 96% fewer parts, while reducing carrying costs by up to 90%.

GlobalSpiral couplings feature the “bite-the-wire” crimp, which allows for building no-skive assemblies that improve coupling retention and prevent blow-offs. Gates Full-Torque Nut technology prevents over-torquing that can cause leaks. GlobalSpiral couplings have been tested up to 600,000 impulse cycles and 4-times working pressure for reliability and long life.

They are designed for use with size -6, -8, -10, -12, -16, and -20 wire-braid hoses. They can be used with Gates Omnicrimp, Powercrimp, and GC models of crimpers.

Gates GlobalSpiral couplings, which are machined from unleaded steel bar stock, can handle working pressures to 6,000 psi.
